Publication Ethics Statement

Journal of Green Chemical and Environmental Engineering (JGCEE) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Candela Edutech Indonesia. The journal is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics, research integrity, transparency, accountability, and professional conduct throughout the publication process.

This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, editorial board members, the publisher, and other participants involved in scholarly publishing. JGCEE follows internationally recognized publication-ethics principles, including the COPE Core Practices, and promotes responsible research and trustworthy scholarly communication.

Academic Integrity Principles

Academic integrity is the foundation of responsible scholarly communication. All participants in the publication process are expected to uphold the following principles in research, review, editorial decision-making, and publication.

Research Integrity & Publication Misconduct

JGCEE is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the scholarly record. Publication misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Fabrication of research data or information.
  • Falsification or manipulation of research data, methods, or findings.
  • Plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
  • Improper authorship practices.
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
  • Multiple, redundant, or simultaneous submissions.
  • Misleading manipulation of scientific images or figures.
  • Citation manipulation.
  • Peer-review manipulation.
  • Misrepresentation of ethical approvals, research procedures, or results.
Suspected misconduct is evaluated fairly, confidentially, and transparently. Depending on the circumstances, JGCEE may request clarification, reject a manuscript, issue a correction or expression of concern, retract a published article, or notify relevant institutions or authorities where appropriate.

Similarity screening: JGCEE applies plagiarism screening and a maximum acceptable similarity threshold of ≤20%, excluding references and properly cited content.

Complaints & Appeals

JGCEE provides a mechanism for handling complaints and appeals concerning editorial decisions, peer review, publication delays, conflicts of interest, citation practices, publication misconduct, or the conduct of editors and reviewers.

  • Complaints should provide sufficient information and supporting evidence where available.
  • Complaints and appeals are handled fairly and confidentially.
  • Editorial decisions are reviewed independently where appropriate.
  • Responses and corrective actions are documented as part of the journal's editorial record.

Ethical Oversight

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical, legal, and professional requirements. Where applicable, authors must provide evidence of:

  • Ethical approval for research involving human participants.
  • Informed consent where required.
  • Compliance with animal welfare requirements.
  • Permission to use copyrighted or third-party materials.
  • Appropriate protection and management of confidential or sensitive information.

JGCEE may request supporting documentation during editorial evaluation or investigation.

Data Availability & Reproducibility

JGCEE promotes transparency and reproducibility. Authors are expected to retain the data, materials, and supporting evidence underlying their published findings and make them available upon reasonable request, subject to ethical, legal, confidentiality, privacy, or proprietary restrictions.

Data Availability Statement: Each manuscript should indicate whether supporting data are available and, where applicable, explain how the data can be accessed.

Authorship & Contributorship

Authorship should reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research. Authors should contribute to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the study; participate in drafting or critically revising the manuscript; approve the final version; and accept responsibility for the integrity of the work.

  • Gift authorship is not permitted.
  • Honorary authorship is not permitted.
  • Ghost authorship is not permitted.
  • Purchased authorship is not permitted.

Any change in authorship after submission must be justified to the editor and approved by all affected authors.

Conflicts of Interest & Funding Transparency

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose relationships or interests that could reasonably influence their judgment. Potential competing interests may include:

Financial relationships Research grants Employment Consulting Personal relationships Intellectual property

Authors should disclose funding sources and the role of funders in the research. Where applicable, authors may state: “The authors declare no competing interests.”

Citation Integrity

Citations must be relevant, accurate, verifiable, and academically justified. JGCEE does not tolerate practices intended to artificially influence citation counts, journal metrics, author metrics, or institutional metrics.

  • Excessive or unjustified self-citation.
  • Coercive citation.
  • Citation stacking.
  • Citation cartels.
  • Manipulation of references or citation metrics.

Editor Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for maintaining the quality, integrity, fairness, confidentiality, and efficiency of the editorial process.

  • Evaluate manuscripts based on scholarly merit, originality, relevance, and methodological quality.
  • Ensure fair, objective, confidential, and timely peer review.
  • Manage conflicts of interest appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of unpublished information.
  • Investigate ethical concerns fairly and confidentially.
  • Issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when justified.
  • Avoid discrimination based on personal or institutional characteristics.
  • Never use unpublished information for personal or commercial advantage.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for the originality, accuracy, ethical conduct, and integrity of their submitted work.

  • Submit original and unpublished work.
  • Do not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to another journal.
  • Present research methods, data, and findings accurately.
  • Properly acknowledge and cite all sources.
  • Obtain required ethical approvals and permissions.
  • Disclose funding and competing interests.
  • Cooperate with the peer-review and editorial process.
  • Provide supporting data when reasonably requested.
  • Promptly notify the journal when significant post-publication errors are identified.

Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers contribute to the quality and credibility of published research. JGCEE uses a double-blind peer-review process for manuscripts that proceed to review.

  • Accept assignments only within their area of expertise.
  • Provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based evaluations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Identify relevant literature that has been overlooked where appropriate.
  • Report suspected plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or ethical concerns.
  • Declare conflicts of interest before accepting or completing a review.
  • Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.
  • Do not use unpublished manuscript information for personal advantage.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Generative Tools

JGCEE recognizes the use of AI and generative AI technologies as assistive tools in scholarly communication. Such use must not compromise scientific integrity, originality, transparency, confidentiality, or human accountability.

  • AI may assist with language editing, grammar, translation, organization, or limited technical assistance.
  • Authors must critically review and verify AI-assisted outputs.
  • AI systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
  • AI must not fabricate, falsify, or misleadingly alter research data or results.
  • AI-generated images must not misleadingly represent experimental findings.
  • Substantive AI use must be disclosed transparently in the manuscript.
  • Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scientific content of the manuscript.
Example AI Use Declaration:
“The authors used [name of AI tool/platform] to assist with [purpose of use]. All AI-generated outputs were reviewed and verified by the authors. The authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scientific content of the manuscript.”

Editorial & Ethical Workflow

Submission → Initial Screening → Ethics & Similarity Check → Double-Blind Review → Editorial Decision → Revision → Publication

Ethical concerns may be investigated at any stage of the editorial and post-publication process.

Corrections, Retractions & Post-Publication Discussions

JGCEE maintains mechanisms for correcting, updating, or retracting published content when necessary to protect the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

Correction For significant errors that do not invalidate the article as a whole.
Addendum For additional information necessary to clarify or expand the published record.
Expression of Concern Used when a substantive concern is under investigation.
Retraction Used when findings are unreliable or serious misconduct substantially affects the record.

Post-publication notices are linked to the affected article and, where applicable, associated with its DOI to preserve transparency of the scholarly record.
